Notes from the WebMaster

A few notes and ramblings from WA4RAY...

Some goals:
  • Increase public awareness of the Olympia Amateur Radio Society (OARS) and amateur radio in general.
  • Increase public awareness of the functions provided by OARS.
  • Increase public awareness of the way that OARS and ARES stand ready to support the community in times of emergency.
  • Work to increase amateur radio operator participation in ARES and other public service functions.
  • Work to improve and increase coordination, cooperation, comaraderie and friendship among Hams.
  • Provide information and news to enhance interest in the amateur radio hobby among amateur radio operators.
  • Provide helpful information for newer amateur radio operators, while supporting development and enhancement of the skills, abilities, interest and activity of all Hams.
  • Provide an additional outreach avenue to attract new amateur radio operators, and to re-engage amateur radio operators who've perhaps drawn away fro mthe hobby.

Towards these goals, several initiatives are underway...
  • Development of a "New Ham Packet", to be handed to every person who passes the Technician test at OARS testing sessions. This will include helpful "starter" info, club info, ARRL flyers, etc.
  • Much greater emphasis on making new Hams feel welcome and ensuring that they know they can get help from club members. The New Ham Packet will help with this.
  • Revamp and expansion of the OARS Web presence.
  • Addition of new Web presence features, including: Twitter, Instagram, Galleries coming soon, YouTube channel coming soon
  • Dynamic content on the OARS Web site, including news, event updates, links to reference material and other helpful items, podcast info and more.

I'm looking for more ideas and suggestions, so let me know of any you may have.
