OARS, the Olympia Amateur Radio Society, is an ARRL special services club dedicated to promoting and supporting Amateur Radio in the Olympia Washington area as well as all of Thurston County.

Many CERTs Have Gone Inactive, Check out MYN

In case you missed it...

Due to cuts to the FEMA budget, many Community Emergency Response Teams, including Thurston County CERT, have gone inactive.

So if you want to get involved in an organized program to prepare your community for emergencies, you may have to go with something like Map Your Neighborhood.

Review and discussion of the Great Washington Shakeout, this past Thursday, Oct 19, the Net that ran at that time, other discussion about past earthquakes held during the Shakeout, Google Earth image of OARS during the 2017 Field Day submitted to Thurston Talk.
Discussion of JOTA, and thanks to those club members who were available on the air to assist. Poor band conditions, but still found people to talk to.
Discussion of a suggestion to eliminate the dinner from the December meeting, other aspects.
Elections coming up in November meeting, have yet to hear interest from someone for the Secretary position.

ARRL sending out a survey to members and non-members

ARRL will be sending out a survey over the next several days.

From ARRL: "The survey will attempt to address the ways in which amateurs obtain their information, how local clubs serve their needs, and how ARRL might do a better job of providing helpful resources."
